Field Trip

The cactus tree immediately stood out like a basketball player in a room of gymnasts. With its branches reaching the ceiling, it was hard to miss. The name tag of this plant was hiding, but after some research it resembles what is called opuntia (aka prickly bear). What made this cactus different from others is that it has a trunk like a tree. It was light in color and was significantly skinny for the amount of nopales it was holding. Nopales are the cactus “leaves” with the spikes. On this plant, the nopales were more common at the top. This plant looks like it could be found in an Arizona desert.

While walking around the green house, I ran into a plant that looked awfully familiar. Also found in my dads living room is what's called the snake plant. We keep it in the corner of the living room next to our porch, which allows it to get the sunlight it needs. Me and my dad have a great appreciation for this plant due to the fact that it is very low maintenance. However, the other weekend my sister somehow managed to wedge her head into the leaves and get this sticky substance stuck in her hair. I also feel the need to mention that she is twelve-years-old, which does not help her case. When we asked her how it happened, she looked at us and shrugged, as if the leaves bent down on their own to caress her head. Anywho, if you are looking for a low-maintenance plant to add greenery to a room in your home, I would highly recommend this plant!
